Increased carbon emissions is leading to rapid cooling that is threatening to decimate crops and destroy fragile eco-systems.

Is this a precursor to a lengthy period of little or no solar activity which may coincide with a mini-Ice Age — the so-called Maunder Minimum?

But it is worth keeping an eye on.

Science.com reported that the Earth’s thermosphere (100 miles up) is cooling rapidly. NASA launched the Thermosphere-Ionosphere-Mesophere Energetics and Dynamics (TIMED) mission in 2001 to get a better picture of this outer layer, Science.com reported.

“The sun is in a very unusual period,” said Marty Mlynczak, a TIMED team member at NASA Langley in Virginia. “The Earth’s thermosphere is responding remarkably – up to an order of magnitude decrease in infrared emission/radiative cooling by some molecules… I certainly didn’t expect to see this eight years ago.”

I wonder if that legendary Computer Model that the Church of Climate Scientology worships expected it.

“More work is needed to fully understand the links between the sun’s energy, rising greenhouse gas emissions and the Earth’s outer atmosphere, the scientists said,” Science.com reported.

Hey, maybe we ought to wait until we have facts — unadulterated by minions for the the Church of Climate Scientology — before we spend trillions retrofitting the world’s economy.

Well its been my experience that the climate changes over and over again but if Al Gore is predicting that the entire north polar ice cap will disappear in five years and that each meter of sea-level rise displaces 100,000,000 people. "It is not a matter of theory or conjecture." then I'd say chances that we'll have another Ice Age are pretty good.

Liars, Scammers and Frauds (and Hillary Clinton), Oh, My!

Hillary Clinton went to Copenhagen and as my Mom would say, talked out of her ass:

"In the context of a strong accord in which all major economies pledge meaningful mitigation actions and provide full transparency as to those actions, the U.S. is prepared to work with other countries towards a goal of mobilising $100bn a year to address the needs of developing countries," Sec. of State Hillary Clinton said, according to BBC.

As Darlene Click said at Protein Wisdom said, It’s not like, you know, it will be coming out of Hillary Clinton’s own bank account. It's also not like Hillary has the authority to commit the United States to anything, but in this case, it is the thought that counts.

Clinton's pledge feeds the notion that we owe the world. But were we to give all that we have "the world" would demand more while still insisting that we hadn't done enough. Those gathered in Copenhagen care little about our exceptionalism. If they think at all of the innovations born in the USA that have benefited the world as whole it is to complain we are destroying the planet. On one hand they insist that as a "rich" nation we have a duty to the world but then they cheer wildly when Hugo Chavez claims that "capitalism is the road to Hell."

The Plant City Tea Party Gives Marco Rubio a Rousing Welcome!

An enthusiastic crowd met in Plant City today to listen to Willie Lawson of BlogTalk Radio, Dr, Gonzalez-Orthopedic Surgeon and Marco Rubio, who will be facing Gov. Charlie Crist in the Republican primary race for the US Senate.

Lawson, active in the local Tea Party, warmed the crowd up and Dr. Gonzalez spoke passionately about the need to stop the Democrats from passing their version of health care reform. The crowd broke out in cheers when Dr. Gonzalez reported that Sen. Bernie Sanders had withdrawn his "single payer" amendment today after Sen. Tom Coburn forced a reading of the 767 page amendment. Both speakers noted the importance of voting for a conservative candidate rather than a "Dem lite" in the August Republican primary. There were no names mentioned but it was clear that Rubio was considered the conservative candidate.

Rubio received a standing ovation when he took the stage. His message of personal and fiscal responsibility plays well across Florida and particularly resonates in Plant City, a small mostly rural community. After speaking, Rubio mingled with crowd answering questions and having his picture taken.

No one in this crowd was surprised that Rubio had tied Crist in the most recent Rasmussen poll-he was obviously their choice.

Rasmussen Has Rubio in a Tie With Crist

The latest Rasmussen poll has Marco Rubio tied with Charlie Crist in the Republican race for the US Senate:

Governor Charlie Crist and former state House Speaker Marco Rubio are now tied in the 2010 race for the Republican Senate nomination in Florida.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely GOP Primary voters finds Crist and Rubio each with 43% of the vote. Five percent (5%) prefer another candidate, and nine percent (9%) are undecided.

Crist’s support has fallen from 53% in August to 49% in October. Rasmussen Reports noted at the time, “The fact that Crist has fallen below 50% in a primary against a lesser known opponent suggests potential vulnerability.”

Rubio’s name recognition has grown in recent months and he is now viewed Very Favorably by 34% of Likely Primary Voters. That’s up from 18% in August. As his name recognition increased, Rubio’s support in the polls has jumped from 31% in August to 43% today.

Crist, well known throughout the state, has seen his ratings go in the opposite direction. Just 19% now have a Very Favorable opinion of him, a figure that represents a double digit decline since August.

I'll be attending a Plant City Tea Party tomorrow where Rubio is scheduled to speak. Plant City is a fairly small, mostly rural area best known as the "Winter Strawberry Capital of the World." Rubio's willingness to venture into smaller venues is one of the reasons his poll numbers have risen so quickly. I've heard him speak at one prior event and he showed a genuine interest in listening to the voters and answering any questions put to him. He's a far cry from the typical politician who jumps up on stage, gives a speech lacking in particulars and rushes off to the next engagement.

We Don't Need No Stinkin Facts

It appears quite clear since the advent of ClimateGate that those who worship at the alter Global Warming are uninterested in facts. And don't even try to talk common sense to them-not their forte. So, the European Foundation's 100 reasons why climate change is natural and not man-made won't sway the AGW lemmings but for those who aren't anti-science or common sense impaired, the list is an excellent read. My ten favorites:

7) The 0.7C increase in the average global temperature over the last hundred years is entirely consistent with well-established, long-term, natural climate trends.

8) The IPCC theory is driven by just 60 scientists and favourable reviewers not the 4,000 usually cited.

16) A Harvard University astrophysicist and geophysicist, Willie Soon, said he is “embarrassed and puzzled” by the shallow science in papers that support the proposition that the earth faces a climate crisis caused by global warming.

19) A petition by scientists trying to tell the world that the political and media portrayal of global warming is false was put forward in the Heidelberg Appeal in 1992. Today, more than 4,000 signatories, including 72 Nobel Prize winners, from 106 countries have signed it.

35) It is a myth that computer models verify that CO2 increases will cause significant global warming because computer models can be made to “verify” anything

55) The argument that climate change is a of result of global warming caused by human activity is the argument of flat Earthers.

57) William Kininmonth, a former head of the National Climate Centre and a consultant to the World Meteorological Organisation, wrote “the likely extent of global temperature rise from a doubling of CO2 is less than 1C. Such warming is well within the envelope of variation experienced during the past 10,000 years and insignificant in the context of glacial cycles during the past million years, when Earth has been predominantly very cold and covered by extensive ice sheets.”

64) Michael Mann of Penn State University has actually shown that the Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age did in fact exist, which contrasts with his earlier work which produced the “hockey stick graph” which showed a constant temperature over the past thousand years or so followed by a recent dramatic upturn.

67) Global temperatures have not risen in any statistically-significant sense for 15 years and have actually been falling for nine years. The “Climate-gate” scandal revealed a scientific team had expressed dismay at the fact global warming was contrary to their predictions and admitted their inability to explain it was “a travesty”.

70) Richard Lindzen, Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, wrote: “The notion of a static, unchanging climate is foreign to the history of the Earth or any other planet with a fluid envelope. Such hysteria (over global warming) simply represents the scientific illiteracy of much of the public, the susceptibility of the public to the substitution of repetition for truth.”

A B+? What's He Smoking?

Obama tells Oprah that he gives himself a B+ for his first year as president. Let's review. In his first year he has added more to our national debt than all previous presidents combined. The "stimulus" hasn't stimulated a thing and the eight percent unemployment he said we would hit if he didn't get his way is now ten percent.

I give him credit for finally making a decision on Afghanistan but he left our troops hanging forever before deciding to give his generals less than they asked for.

Obama claims that we have made progress at halting Iran and N. Korea's development. Citation, please Mr. President. From where I stand, all of President Obama's "pretty pleases" have resulted in a resounding "pound sand."

Unbelievably, the president claims that passing health care reform will raise his grade to an A-. Puppy please. Fifty-six percent of Americans are against ObamaCare.

Consider the current Rassmussen daily tracking poll. Forty-four percent of the population somewhat approve of the president while forty-two percent strongly disapprove and overall, fifty-five percent disapprove.

Doesn't sound like a B+ to me.

The Lending Pickle

When it comes to lending the rule of the day seems to be damned if you do, damned if you don’t. President Obama’s command to banks today to “make it so” belies a deep ignorance of the role that lending plays for financial institutions.

Based on fifteen years in lending let me put this succinctly, banks love making loans. Banks do not turn down credit worthy applicants. Think of loans as “widgets”. The company that produces the widgets makes money by selling the widgets for more than the cost of producing the them. Banks make money by selling money (lending) for more than it costs them to purchase the money (deposits). That is a bit simplistic but it gets to the gist of it.

Deposits that are not lent out cost banks money. Every incentive is to get the money out on the street. However, “creditworthiness” is more than just a credit score. Incomes have shrunk but debts haven’t. Even people who have managed to keep up their payments through this recession may not have the room to add another payment. Traditionally people who ran in to a debt to income wall would do a debt consolidation loan using the equity in their homes and generally lowering their monthly payments. For the record, I HATE debt consolidation loans. In my experience, in the long run they hurt more people than they helped. Nonetheless, rare is the person who has equity in their own these days.

Government pressure on financial institutions led to scores of people being put into mortgages that they could not afford. Let’s not repeat the mistake with the small businesses in this country.

Our friends in the Senate have passed a $1.1 TRILLION spending bill and if their previous spending habits are any kind of clue the 1,000+ page bill has all kinds of goodies in it.

Terrorists Attack UC Berkeley Chancellor's Home. Attempt to set home on fire. With Chancellor inside.

As many as 70 protesters, many carrying torches and smashing windows,
attempted to storm UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau's on-campus residence
late Friday in a violent act condemned by university officials and student
activists alike.

Eight people, including two UC Berkeley students, were arrested on
suspicion of rioting, threatening an educational official, attempted burglary,
attempted arson, felony vandalism and assault with a deadly weapon on a police
officer, the university said.

Some protesters threw incendiary objects at the house in an attack that
left the chancellor and his wife fearing for their lives.

The group was apparently protesting student fee hikes and budget cuts. The
demonstrators chanted "No justice, no peace," as the chancellor slept. His wife
woke him up about 11 p.m.

"These are criminals, not activists," Birgeneau said in a statement
Saturday. "The attack at our home was extraordinarily frightening and violent.
My wife and I genuinely feared for our lives. The people involved in this action
will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I want to emphasize that they
represent an extreme minority of our students.

"UC Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof said it was a "matter of luck" the
protesters were unable to break into the home before police scattered most of
the crowd. Protesters smashed lights, shattered windows, scattered trash and
flipped over planters, Mogulof said ....

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a statement calling Friday's protest
"terrorism" and said "those who participated will be prosecuted under the
fullest extent of the law." UC President Mark Yudof called the attack
"appalling" and said the "matter is now appropriately in the hands of law
enforcement authorities."

Probably an odd thing to focus on but the report says eight people were arrested including two students. If two were students, who were the other six? Parents of students? High school seniors who had applied to Berkeley? If they aren't students, how does the tuition increase affect them?

My curiosity aside, California has taxed and regulated itself in to a deep, deep hole. It just stands to reason that when a state runs out of people it can tax it is left to cut services and increase fees, even Berkeley students, regardless of how precious they view themselves, are not immune to the realities of life. If there is a solution, the students won't find it by destroying property.

Now That EPA is Threatening to Regulate Carbon Dioxide, are We Still Allowed to Exhale?

If the EPA has the power to regulate carbon dioxide, what human activity doesn't the EPA have the power to regulate?

Carter "Out Obamas" Obama

Every time he has bowed, every time he has apologized for America's greatness, every time he has inexplicably failed to act in the defense of democracy, I have compared Barack Obama to former president Jimmie Carter. But (so far) Obama has never gone this bat sh*t crazy:

Carter singled out the Southern Baptist Convention and Roman Catholic Church, claiming that they “view that the Almighty considers women to be inferior to men.” However, both Christian faiths hold to the Scriptural truth that God created men and women equal.

“Their continuing choice provides a foundation or justification for much of the pervasive persecution and abuse of women throughout the world,” said Carter. Carter goes on to list horrific violations against women such as rape, genital mutilation, abortion of female embryos and spousal battery.

Now, I am not currently affiliated with any particular Christian denomination but I have attended plenty of both baptist and catholic services in my life and just like Obama was "absent" when the Rev. Wright was spewing his hateful crap, I must have been sleeping through the sermons that called for genital mutilation.

Carter has completed his short trip Nutsville. Many, many women throughout the globe face horrendous abuse based on the religious affiliation of their abusers. Even mentioning baptists and catholics as "causal" to the rapes, stonings and degradation heaped on women by adherents to the "religion of peace" obscures and excuses the terror that Muslim live with every day of their lives.

It is past time for Carter to shuffle quietly in to the sunset.

Erick at RedState is calling on all Republican senators to stand up and fight to stop the health care bill from advancing. Stacy McCain asks, If Not Now, When? We know the answer, if not now, never. If we don't stand up when the government is poised to takeover one sixth of our economy we will never get another chance.

Each of us only has two senators. If you have a Republican senator email Erick's article to them. If you have a Democratic senator, email them and let them know where you stand. Follow up with a phone call.

Poll after poll has shown that we don't want this bill. It does no good to talk to pollsters. Talk to your neighbors. Talk to your family. Talk to anyone who will listen. But most of all, talk to your senator.

Does Sarah Have You Flummoxed?

God bless, Sarah Palin. She has a whole lot of people not knowing what to think. And that my friends, is a good thing.

My goodness the "political formula" has become staid. They all look alike, they all sound alike. Barack Obama is just a darker version of "same thing, different day." Sometimes I feel like good ol' Charlie Browm sitting in the classroom listenning to " waa waa waa waa waaaaa." And along comes Sarah.

No offense boys but leave it to a woman to shake things up. To be sure, there are other female politicians but Pelosi drips "bitch" from every fiber of her being. Ditto Boxer. Hillary sold out her potential for a job she'll never make her own. But Sarah, she's original. She's not going to conform to the accepted "norms" of political life for anyone. Throw everything including the kitchen sink at her and she will stand there, without any sign of fear, and pick up her sentence right where she left off.

The "Ugly Beast" Was Never Really Gone

Today Jonah Goldberg wrote The Ugly Beast Returns which deals with Diane Francis' call for a "one child policy" to deal with, in her opinion, the over-population that is destroying the planet. The thing is, the ugly beast never left. The Bride of Rove ran in to one of these "one child" idiots yesterday. I've got a co-worker who is a "one childer." Back in October, I named Alex Renton as my dumb ass of the week for this comment:

But how do you reduce population in countries where women's rights are already achieved and birth-control methods are freely available? Could children perhaps become part of an adult's personal carbon allowance? Could you offer rewards: have one child only and you may fly to Florida once a year?

And lets not forget about population offsets. Francis doesn't sugar coat where she stands:

Humans are the only rational animals but have yet to prove it. Medical and other scientific advances have benefited by delivering lower infant mortality rates as well as longevity. Both are welcome, but humankind has not yet recalibrated its behavior to account for the fact that the world can only accommodate so many people, especially if billions get indoor plumbing and cars. (emphasis added)

The fix is simple. It's dramatic. And yet the world's leaders don't even have this on their agenda in Copenhagen. Instead there will be photo ops, posturing, optics, blah-blah-blah about climate science and climate fraud, announcements of giant wind farms, then cap-and-trade subsidies.(emphasis added)

None will work unless a China one-child policy is imposed....

Wow, by invoking China as the model Francis is coming out as pro forced abortion. Thats downright John Holdren of her. Goldberg responds:

But one point does cry out to be made. Imagine if someone wrote an op-ed saying that we need a planetary ban on abortion. Feminists would get their dresses over their heads in outrage about such a naked assault on "reproductive freedom." But here is a woman in a very prestigious Canadian newspaper arguing, in effect, that every country in the world should force women everywhere to have an abortion if they already have a child. Put aside, for a moment, the pro-life objections to this. Even if you think the unborn are really just a bunch of cells, mere "uterine contents" with no more moral import than fingernail clippings, how on earth can anyone believe in "reproductive freedom" and not be absolutely horrified by the police-state evil of such proposals? (emphasis added)

But Francis feels perfectly comfortable suggesting that the government has the right to impose a one child policy. She appeared on O'Reilly tonight and trust me, she feel no shame or embarrassment about her views. And that is the rub isn't it? When people are comfortable not only thinking the unthinkable, but imposing their will on others, we are in big trouble.

What is He Suggesting?

Consider this from Matthew Yglesias:

We’re suffering from an incoherent institutional set-up in the senate. You can have a system in which a defeated minority still gets a share of governing authority and participates constructively in the victorious majority’s governing agenda, shaping policy around the margins in ways more to their liking. Or you can have a system in which a defeated minority rejects the majority’s governing agenda out of hand, seeks opening for attack, and hopes that failure on the part of the majority will bring them to power. But right now we have both simultaneously. It’s a system in which the minority benefits if the government fails, and the minority has the power to ensure failure. It’s insane, and it needs to be changed. (emphasis added)

How does Yglesias suggest that it be changed? I would remind Yglesias that the Democrats have the White House, the Senate and the House. They can do any damn thing they want and there is not a whole lot the Republicans can do about it. The Left's problem has nothing to do with "the minority"; their problem is that even Democrats face re-election and as such, some of them, and occasionally enough of them, balk at backing a far Left agenda. So unless Yglesias is suggesting that the entire election process be chucked and instead hand-picked Leftist are permanently installed in the halls of power I would suggest that he adjust to the messy mechanisms of democracy.

Tiger Woods is Taking an "Indefinite" Leave From Golf

Fox News is reporting that Tiger Woods has announced that he will take an indefinite leave from golf:

JACKSONVILLE, Florida — Tiger Woods is taking an indefinite leave from professional golf to work on saving his family, using the word "infidelity" for the first time in a statement posted on his Web site.

Woods says he is aware of the disappointment that "my infidelity" has caused to his wife and children. He says he might not be able to repair the damage, but he wants to try.

He did not disclose Friday evening how long of a break he would take from the PGA Tour. He again asked for privacy, saying his family would need a "safe haven" to try to heal.

There is a rumor that he will be moving his family to his wife's country of Sweden. It appears that Tiger and his wife have a sincere desire to heal their family. With that in mind, I will wish them the best of luck.

I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What's most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.
