I just couldn't turn away. It was just so disturbing and bizarre. It must be a joke, right? Right?

I'll comment
Ever a gentleman, Bob refuses to comment of this picture. Well, somebody has to.
Dear Michelle:
You are the First Lady of the United States of America. Please do remember to comport in a ladylike manner. This means you must not pick your nose, dig the earwax out from you ears or do that in public. Image, dear.

Somebody needs to cut the president's credit card in two
Is there not one person in the whole of the United States government who has the backbone to look at The Mighty, Mighty Barry and say, “No sir, you won’t spend $200 million dollars a day to travel to Mumbai.”?
Is it necessary to take 3,000 people along for the ride? Could the president perhaps make do with only thirty-three warships? Could he maybe only walk down paths that don’t contain palm trees, or better yet, walk carrying Michelle on his shoulders?
If our president can’t visit another country without it costing the taxpayer’s an arm and a leg then he should stay home. Go green, Mr. President. Teleconference.
P.S. 150 people throughout the world are killed by falling coconuts each year. Or not. In any case, kinda wimpy thing to worry about much less plan for.
P.P.S. Barry and Michelle Antoinette do really seem perfectly suited for one another, don't they?
P.P.P.S. (Last one, I promise) This trip is costing each man, woman and child in this country 65 cents per day. When you think about it, that could be far cheaper than having the president in DC.

Momma Michelle Knows Best
Jennifer Ruben, writing in Commentary:
I was raised in the "my house, my rules" era. It worked out pretty good though I sometimes resented that my dependency limited my ability to make choices. As an adult I have no desire to be dependent on the government and I certainly don't need a daddy (other than the one I have). Yet Washington elites are determined to pull a "my house, my rules" on the entire country. Friends, we don't have that type of relationship. They work for us and when last I checked, the employee does not dictate to the employer.
We did not reach this point overnight and we will not undo the damage done by government encroachment any time soon. We can start by re-igniting the "can do" attitude that served us so well for decades and by remembering that government is not our daddy, our nanny or our charity provider. For my part, I promise not to tell Michelle Antoinette what she can plant in her garden if she will promise to return the favor.
I don’t much care if the president smokes or pigs out on fast food. In fact, I think it’s a poor idea to take away emotionally comforting habits from the man with his finger on the button. I don’t care, because these are personal choices, and he is an adult, a well-educated one with superb medical advice. What does grate on the nerves is the incessant nagging — don’t eat those fries, inflate your tires – that suggests that Americans are too dim to figure these things out for themselves. Moreover, it assumes it is the government’s job to screech at us.Is there anything that symbolizes more clearly how inane our government has become than Michelle Antoinette telling us what we are and are not allowed to eat? The government argues that when the government foots the bill that it gets to call the shots but government doesn't really foot the bill for anything. It is the taxpayers who shell out the bucks and it is government who sits on the dole.
And yes, it is a matter of perspective. Laura Bush was concerned with the women of Burma who are raped and murdered by a fascistic state. Michelle is growing — actually having the hired help grow — an organic garden. It’s the sort of thing that bored housewives from the Upper West Side or Beverly Hills would obsess about. It lack gravitas and perspective. But then that’s pretty much what the Obamas are all about.

Oh, Give Me a Break
I've said it before and I'll say it again don't piss down my back and tell me it is raining.
Lynn Sweet, writing in Politics Daily is defending the fair Lady Michelle's trip to Spain by claiming that Michelle and Sasha were there to comforting a grieving friend. That, as Michelle Malkin would say, is snort worthy.

Mrs. Obama and her friends paid for their hotel rooms and other personal expenses. All first ladies, however, get 24-hour security and transportation on military aircraft. When Mrs. Obama flies on personal business, she pays what amounts to a first-class fare, but taxpayers pick up most of the overhead costs for the plane and security.Lady Michelle & friends may have paid their own expenses but they also left a tab in excess of $400,000 for the taxpayers. Not exactly chump change, unless you consider working Americans to be chumps. Of course, we are to believe that if it weren't for security concerns the Lady Michelle and her posse would have holed at the local Super 8.
A reason Mrs. Obama stayed at the ritzy Villa Padierna in Marbella was security, I was told. Agents were able to secure the lush resort and a nearby beach.
JustOneMinute:
We have a President with a long problem establishing that he is in touch with those middle Americans bitterly clinging to their guns, their religion, their hopes for a better job, and so on. Now Michelle is jet-setting in five-star hotels while Democrats strategize on getting their message out. Point One:Dems are counting on the false belief that if say that they are on the side of the middle class often enough that eventually someone will believe it. I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
Democrats are on the side of the middle class. It shows.

When it Comes to Madam Michelle it isn't Either/Or, It is Both
I'm not sure I understand what Maureen Dowd is trying to say except that poor Barry has a really tough job (thanks to George W. Bush, of course) and that Michelle needs to do a little more "standing by her man". The passage that confuses me:
Fidel Castro's personal wealth is estimated to be in excess of $900 million dollars. The average monthly income for the Cuban people is $18 dollars per month. Nothing unusual about that. The average per capita income in Palestine is $1,268 while at the time of his death, Yasser Arafat's personal wealth was estimated at $1.3 billion dollars. Too often, those who champion "the people" do so while amassing great wealth at the expense of "the people".
Among those who share the Obama worldview, it is not about spreading the wealth. They spread the misery while retaining wealth and power for themselves and their cronies. There has been a lot of talk about the Obama's "bad optics" but in reality, they are simply being who they are. In their view, they are entitled.
Any woman who would show up to a soup kitchen in $540 tennis shoes or claim that the only thing that the $600 Stimulus check was good for was buying a single pair of earrings isn't worried about optics. The Obama's credo is "Let 'em eat arugula."

Her critics used to paint her as a scary Marxist. Now they cast her as a spoiled princess. For my part, I would describe Michelle as a spoiled princess who happens to be one very scary Marxist. It isn't either/or-it is both. If you think that the terms "Marxist" and "spoiled princess" are mutually exclusive, consider this:
During the campaign, she was caricatured on the cover of The New Yorker as a fist-bumping, gun-toting Black Panther. Now she’s mocked by a New York Daily News blogger as a jet-setting, free-spending Marie Antoinette. (On Spain’s Costa del Sol with Sasha on her husband’s 49th birthday, she did, in effect, say let him eat cake — alone.)

Taxpayers: The Bottomless Money Pit
Pay up, Sucker! I just heard on the news that SIXTY rooms have been reserved at a primo resort for Michelle and Sasha's mother/daughter jaunt to Spain. Does anybody think that might be just a bit excessive?
I don't begrudge the First Lady a vacation, though it does seem that there has been no shortage of those, but I do begrudge elected officials and their families behaving like royalty. Too many in this country don't know where the next meal is going to come from while Michelle is channeling Marie Antoinette.
A little bit of decorum from the First Family would be greatly appreciated. A little bit of recognition of, and respect for, the struggles of American families is in order. And while we're at it, the Obama's need to quit using the taxpayers as their personal bottomless money pit.

Why Attend a Jamboree When a Lovefest is Available?
So what if its the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts? So what if as President of the United States Barry is also honorary chairman of the Boy Scouts? Barry has been invited to go on The View and by golly that is what he is going to do. Dignity be damned! We're talking slobbering sycophants and Barry knows what Barry likes.
Now even Democratic Governor Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania is suggesting that maybe being seen on The View is a bit low brow for a sitting president. Ya think? From Don Surber:

Don, shhhh! Some of us have gotten a lot of mileage out of Michelle's fondness for tacky togs.Via Matt Lewis and the News, Democratic Governor Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania: “I think there are some shows… I wouldn’t put him on ‘Jerry Springer’ either, right?… It is different, a little bit. But look, I think the president of the United States has to go on serious shows. And ‘The View’ is — you can make a case that ‘The View’ is a serious show — but also rocks and rolls a little bit. I’m not sure he has to go on ‘The View’ to be open to questions."Actually Barack and Michelle Obama on Jerry Springer would be cool. That last segment where audience members riddle and ridicule the participants would be a hoot.
Audience member: Jerry, I’d like to ask that big armed lady why she keeps buying her dresses in the drapery section at Sears. You know, you don’t have to wear purple and orange all the time.

Mirror, STAT!

Whoa, Nellie! Did Michelle Obama pick up that outfit at a Liberace estate sale?
Look, dissing the King and snubbing school children is just plain rude. Blinding people is criminal.
Somebody buy that woman a mirror stat.

Why Chicago Lost the Olympics
From Doug Ross:
Top 10 Reasons Chicago Didn't Get the Olympics [Rich Lowry]
10. Dead people can't vote at IOC meetings
9. Obama distracted by 25 min meeting with Gen. McChrystal
8. Who cares if Obama couldn't talk the IOC into Chicago? He'll be able to talk Iran out of nukes.
7. The impediment is Israel still building settlements.
6. Obviously no president would have been able to acomplish it.
5. We've been quite clear and said all along that we didn't want the Olympics.
4. This isn't about the number of Olympics "lost", it's about the number of Olympics "saved" or "created".
3. Clearly not enough wise Latina judges on the committee
2. Because the IOC is racist.
1. It's George Bush's fault.
My theory on what cost Chicago the Olympics:

Michelle, if Oprah didn't tell you she should have-that dress is just butt ugly. You're the First Lady. You aren't going to make a good impression by looking like the girl at the junior high prom who showed up with her cousin.

Is Anyone Really Surprised That Chicago Didn't Get The Olympics?
Via Memeorandum:
Well, I guess some people are, chiefly the Os, but I can't imagine why. Despite our leader's belief in his own power of persuasion, you just can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
When speaking of Chicago the first thing that comes to mind is corruption. The second is, ala Valerie Jarrett, slums. Not exactly selling points. But, just as Obama erroneously thought that he could sell ObamaCare by yucking it up on Letterman, he also believed that his presence in Copenhagen would guarantee a win. I'm told the Drudge headline was, The Ego has Landed.
The London Times writes:
They are being kind. But despite the Os' bruised ego, the loss of the Olympic bid is a good thing. The Olympics are an expensive undertaking that the country can't afford right now. Nobody outside of Obama crony circle would stand to make any money off the deal. Like the bailout og GM, the bid was an attempt by this administration to reward its cronies on the taxpayer dime.
Another Black Conservative puts it this way:
It was a fool's errand, which is why Obama went.

The London Times writes:
There has been a growing narrative taking hold about Barack Obama’s
presidency in recent weeks: that he is loved by many, but feared by none; that
he is full of lofty vision, but is actually achieving nothing with his
grandiloquence.
Chicago’s dismal showing today, after Mr Obama’s personal,
impassioned last-minute pitch, is a stunning humiliation for this President. It
cannot be emphasised enough how this will feed the perception that on the world
stage he looks good — but carries no heft.
They are being kind. But despite the Os' bruised ego, the loss of the Olympic bid is a good thing. The Olympics are an expensive undertaking that the country can't afford right now. Another Black Conservative puts it this way:
US taxpayers can breathe a sigh of relief. The Obamas, Winfrey, Daley,
Jarrett “Dream Team” has suffered an Epic Fail. Chicago was
knocked out in the first round of voting. Perhaps now Obama will understand
that on the world stage he has far less star power than previously
thought.
This was truly a fool’s errand. Chicago is broke like church mice and
had little business trying to compete for such an expensive prize. Obama has far
more serious matters on his plate and it was irresponsible to take time for what
has been traditionally a local issue. Furthermore the cost of flying both
Obama’s to Copenhagen is as highly irresponsible, given the tremendous financial
strain our nation is under.
It was a fool's errand, which is why Obama went.
