Misleading Title of the Day

The following title at Bloomberg.com seems pretty clear:

Tea Party Advocates Who Scorn Socialism Want a Government Job

As a Tea Party advocate myself, it came as news to me that my fellow "partyers" are pining for a government job.  I don't want a government job and nor have I ever heard anyone at any of the several Tea Party events I've attended say I'm here angling for a government job.  Yet, if Bloomberg says it, it must be true.

Here is what they have to support that title:

Tea Party activists, who are becoming a force in U.S. politics, want the federal government out of their lives except when it comes to creating jobs.

More than 90 percent of Tea Party backers interviewed in a new Bloomberg National Poll say the U.S. is verging more toward socialism than capitalism, the federal government is trying to control too many aspects of private life and more decisions should be made at the state level.
A.  The US is becoming a socialist country  CHECK
B.  Our government is interfering in private decisions  CHECK
C.  Important decisions should be made on the state level  CHECK

I following so far but I'm still not seeing how the title relates to the post.

At the same time, 70 percent of those who sympathize with the Tea Party, which organized protests this week against President Barack Obama’s health-care overhaul, want a federal government that fosters job creation.
I am not a spokesperson for the Tea Party but I think I can analyze this poll with a little more credibility than the writer from Bloomberg.  First, the only jobs that government creates are government jobs.  It is the private sector that is the driver of employment in this country (for the time being).  What members of the Tea Party want is for government to get the Hell out of the way and let the private sector do what it does best.  So, if a pollster asked me if I wanted government to "foster" job creation, I would answer in the affirmative because I think government "fosters" job creation by chucking unnecessary regulations and lowering taxes.  To interpret that as "wanting a government job" is simply a leap too far and incredibly, and given the post's tone, intentionally, misleading.

I am not accusing the writer, Heidi Przybyla, of having an agenda but throughout the article she couched the polls results in such a way that it isn't surprising that the article led to this reaction at firedoglake:

Bloomberg is the latest polling outfit to discover that the Teabaggers are deeply confused, ignorant people.
Again, I'm not looking for a government job but if Bloomberg needs someone can objectively report poll results...

The World Loves Us, Really

Via Memeorandum:

I for one have stayed up nights worried about "The World's" opinion of the United States so you can imagine my relief when I read that Obama has restored our reputation:

A little more than a year after his election, President Obama said his administration has laid the groundwork for success on global and domestic matters.

"I think that we've restored America's standing in the world, and that's confirmed by polls," he told CNN's Ed Henry in a wide-ranging interview this week during his trip to China.

"I think a recent one indicated that around the world, before my election, less than half the people -- maybe less than 40 percent of the people -- thought that you could count on America to do to the right thing. Now it's up to 75 percent."
Unfortunately, the Iranians, Hondurans and Czechs and Poles were unable to participate in the polls.

Obama has spent the better part of his young administration prostrating and apologizing for the United States to the rest of the world. He's sucked up to tyrants and screwed over allies. Generally speaking Obama's message has been that American has been a screwup but now that he's in charge he'll put us on the right path. No doubt it is a message that the Eurocrats approve. For all of Obama's scraping and bowing, we've gotten next to nothing in return.

Dan Riehl reacts:

What an ignorant, naive doofus this guy is. He seems to put a lot more stock in world polls than he does domestic ones. He dismisses those when it conflicts with his policy goals. This arrogant basturd cares more about what the world thinks of him, than what Americans do. And if he honestly believes the nation's that are important to us in the world, especially potential threats, are going to treat us any differently because of his image obsessed presidency, the guy is as dangerous, as he is clueless about world politics.

The man's a superficial fool, a fraud and a Leftist tool.
Sounds about right.

Today's Ugly Lapdog Award Goes To...

NY TIMES + Ginned Up Poll Data =

The President's healthcare plan has been treading water of late so Obama's faithful lapdog, The New York Times, leapt into action! The result was a poll that showed that 72% of Americans love the President's health and can't wait to pay for. Pretty impressive. Except...

The Times basically faked the poll. They chose respondents who by an aoverwhelming majority voted for Obama. In fact, they chose Obama supporters almost two to one.

As they said over at Maggie's Farm, “The New York Times, otherwise known as the Grey Lady, might more appropriately be known as Obama’s Shady Lady. Believe its poll and get a Times Square disease."

Here are the numbers as reported by NewsBusters:

[A]ccording to the actual poll data, of the 73% of respondents who said they voted in 2008 only 34% voted for McCain and 66% for Obama.

As can be plainly seen on page 7 of the poll's data, only 73 percent of respondents divulged who they voted for last November. 48 percent said Obama, 25 percent McCain.

What this means is this poll surveyed 66 percent Obama supporters versus 34 percent McCain.

It's a shame really. The Times makes one scroungy lapdog.
