"We Screwed Up": Get Out the Waders Edition
"We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children. We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us."
Golda Meir
Rahm Emanuel told a groups of rabbis at the White House that "we screwed up the messaging". Really? After the disgraceful treatment that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu received during visit to the White House the "messaging" is quite clear: bug off.
Now that Jewish voters are abandoning the Democratic party Emanuel wants to pull an, "oops, our bad" in the hopes that everything will be forgotten and forgiven. Fat chance, ballerina boy.

When did the Obama administration become aware that they had “screwed up the messaging”? About the same time that Jewish voters began abandoning them. That would have been shortly before Chuck Schumer scolded them over fumbling the alliance, and perhaps just after leaking that Obama would “impose” a peace plan on Israel. With the midterms looking disastrous, Emanuel and his team want to shore up support in one of the most reliable voting blocs Democrats have.Emanuel can dance around the Obama Administration's words and actions of the last sixteen months but but the record remains. The Administration has aligned itself with the wrong side and has done so in keeping with its true self. Barack Obama is no friend to Israel and he never will be.
The problem is that it’s not just the messaging. Obama set peace negotiations back to pre-Oslo days by demanding a halt to building in an area of Jerusalem that hadn’t ever been a hurdle to talks in the past. He insulted Israel’s Prime Minister in a visit to the White House, and has repeatedly demanded concessions from Israel as preconditions to talks with an enemy that still refuses to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist. This White House has objectively been the most hostile American administration to Israel since its founding.
If they just try to spin the messaging while keeping to the same strategies, don’t expect it to fool anyone. Pleasing words mean less and less after the track record of the last sixteen months. This looks like a desperate plea from Emanuel to the rabbis asking them to ignore Obama’s obvious hostility towards Israel in order to get more Democrats elected. (emphasis added)

Crisis and Manufactured Crisis
Via Newser:
Rahm Emanuel famously said, "Never let a serious crisis go to waste." The American people, to their credit, seem unwilling to let the Obama team exploit this crisis as thoroughly as they'd like to.- William Kristol

I doubt that Mr. Emanuel would admit it, but as it happens the American people aren’t nearly as compliant or complacent as the thugs from Chicago had believed. On the other hand, Obama & Co. appear convinced that by extending the crisis that they can wear the public down.
President Barack Obama said his $787 billion stimulus bill “has worked as intended” as he pushed back against Republican criticism that his recovery program has failed to rescue the economy.
Taking the President at his word, 9.5% unemployment is no fluke. So if increasing unemployment is a feature of “the recovery” what is the President’s end game? It seems that every single thing that has come out of Washington since Obama took over has been counter-intuitive to solving the economic crisis. So when he says the stimulus “has worked as intended” it is reasonable to ask, “what were you intending?”
None of the Obama administration’s grand schemes are working, Kristol continues, and even trusted allies in the media are bemoaning the sad state of affairs. “Why such long faces?” Kristol wonders. Because, despite the horror of the Bush years, “the American public hasn't fundamentally rethought their turn in 1980 away from big government liberalism.” Kristol quotes Michael Barone: “Americans seem to be recoiling against big government when it threatens to become a reality rather than a campaign promise.”
The Administration underestimated American’s independent spirit and it has set them back from where they thought they would be at this point. Let’s hope that it is the first of many such setbacks.
