The "Ugly Beast" Was Never Really Gone

Today Jonah Goldberg wrote The Ugly Beast Returns which deals with Diane Francis' call for a "one child policy" to deal with, in her opinion, the over-population that is destroying the planet. The thing is, the ugly beast never left. The Bride of Rove ran in to one of these "one child" idiots yesterday. I've got a co-worker who is a "one childer." Back in October, I named Alex Renton as my dumb ass of the week for this comment:

But how do you reduce population in countries where women's rights are already achieved and birth-control methods are freely available? Could children perhaps become part of an adult's personal carbon allowance? Could you offer rewards: have one child only and you may fly to Florida once a year?

And lets not forget about population offsets. Francis doesn't sugar coat where she stands:

Humans are the only rational animals but have yet to prove it. Medical and other scientific advances have benefited by delivering lower infant mortality rates as well as longevity. Both are welcome, but humankind has not yet recalibrated its behavior to account for the fact that the world can only accommodate so many people, especially if billions get indoor plumbing and cars. (emphasis added)

The fix is simple. It's dramatic. And yet the world's leaders don't even have this on their agenda in Copenhagen. Instead there will be photo ops, posturing, optics, blah-blah-blah about climate science and climate fraud, announcements of giant wind farms, then cap-and-trade subsidies.(emphasis added)

None will work unless a China one-child policy is imposed....

Wow, by invoking China as the model Francis is coming out as pro forced abortion. Thats downright John Holdren of her. Goldberg responds:

But one point does cry out to be made. Imagine if someone wrote an op-ed saying that we need a planetary ban on abortion. Feminists would get their dresses over their heads in outrage about such a naked assault on "reproductive freedom." But here is a woman in a very prestigious Canadian newspaper arguing, in effect, that every country in the world should force women everywhere to have an abortion if they already have a child. Put aside, for a moment, the pro-life objections to this. Even if you think the unborn are really just a bunch of cells, mere "uterine contents" with no more moral import than fingernail clippings, how on earth can anyone believe in "reproductive freedom" and not be absolutely horrified by the police-state evil of such proposals? (emphasis added)

But Francis feels perfectly comfortable suggesting that the government has the right to impose a one child policy. She appeared on O'Reilly tonight and trust me, she feel no shame or embarrassment about her views. And that is the rub isn't it? When people are comfortable not only thinking the unthinkable, but imposing their will on others, we are in big trouble.

On The Edge Of Fascism

Mark Tapscott warns us that we should Beware the Stalin in liberal hearts. What we're talking about here is the real "F" word-fascism.

It starts so simply and with the best of intentions. We can list forever the things that society would be better off without: tobacco, sugar, meat, alcohol, riding a motorcycle without a helmet. On the right, we believe that each of us has the right to decide for ourselves if we want to do things that might have a negative impact on us. On the Left, the belief is that the government has the right to make those for the individual and use the penalty of law to enforce those decisions.

The choice is between living free or living decision free. Once you buy in to living decision free there is no "do over." If you accept that government, not the individual, should regulate behavior then there is no "picking and choosing." The person who engages in risky sexual behavior is equal to the smoker is equal to the person who eats two deserts.

Do we really want government making our most basic decisions for us? If the answer is yes then where does it end? If the answer is no, then why would we submit to government for our health care?

Janis Joplin said that freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose. She was wrong. Being free means having everything to lose. Or everything to give away.

Jones May Be Out But What About The Rest?

A Teachable Moment

Pat, a teacher, writes at And So it Goes in Shreveport that she is passing on the Obama speech on Tuesday and instead, will be using the class time to teach. That is an incredible concept and think for a moment how our public schools would improve if all our teachers were to follow Pat's lead.

For the record, most teacher in my experience have been like Pat. Many teachers dip in to their own pockets to provide supplies for their classrooms. They dedicate their "off time" to develop lesson plans that will keep their students engaged in the learning process. Sadly, these days we all know a teacher who uses their class time to preach their pet issues rather than sticking to their subject matter.

The Left is stunned that any parent would object to the President would give a short speech extolling the virtues of staying in school and working hard. In all the posts claiming shock that racist wingnuts are children of this wonderful "teachable moment", none so much refer in passing to the materials that will accompany the President's speech:

"What do you think the President wants us to do?"
"Does the speech make you want to do anything?"
"Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us?"

You don't have to be a "racist wingnut" to recognize that those questions can easily be used in a way that amounts to indoctrination. If a teacher must use class time for a "civics" lesson, let is be that our elected officials serve us and not the other way around.

Remember "Hitler's Youth"? Coming To A Public School Near You...Updated

Remember that ookey video that came out right after Obama was elected, I Pledge? If you've forgotten, it is the one where a bunch of Hollywood sycophants pledged fealty to Lord Obama. It can be useful to show to children if you follow it up with the warning, "this is what happens to people who use drugs."

According to Michelle Malkin, a school principal in Utah decided to show the video at a school assembly because, well foisting political propaganda to young impressionable children is all the Leftist rage these days.

On September 8th, our Supreme Leader will be coming to a classroom near you, or as Jimmie at The Sundries Shack puts it, “Ask not what the country can do for you, rather write down what you can do for the President in a letter and give it to your teacher so that a few months from now she can give it back to you and hold you accountable for not giving the President your all.”

My daughter recently told me that she appreciates that my grandkids wear uniforms at their charter school. I have no doubt that soon all children at public schools will be wearing uniforms as well. Won't they look nice in those cute little brown shirts?

My pro-life position is fairly well known but I admit, I am glad that the woman referenced in the video won’t be having children; the fewer nutcases on the planet the better. But what if that woman, or someone like her, was in the position to force their nutty ideas on the rest of us?


In today's world, however, the number of children in a family is a matter of profound public concern. The law regulates other highly personal matters. For example, no one may lawfully have more than one spouse at a time. Why should the law not be able to prevent a person from having more than two children?


That is from page 838 of Ecoscience by John Holdren. Unfortunately, Holdren is some lone wacko; he is President Obama’s Science Czar!

Adding a sterilant to drinking water or staple foods is a suggestion that seems to horrify people more than most proposals for involuntary fertility control. Indeed, this would pose some very difficult political, legal, and social questions, to say nothing of the technical problems. No such sterilant exists today, nor does one appear to be under development. To be acceptable, such a substance would have to meet some rather stiff requirements: it must be uniformly effective, despite widely varying doses received by individuals, and despite varying degrees of fertility and sensitivity among individuals; it must be free of dangerous or unpleasant side effects; and it must have no effect on members of the opposite sex, children, old people, pets, or livestock.


What does it say about the current administration that they have put someone in a position of authority who advocates slipping sterilants in to our food and drinking supply? Are we supposed to feel grateful that there is at least some consideration given to the harmful side effects of a clandestine mass drugging of the population?

This “czar” was appointed by Obama and answers only to Obama. Why would the President bring an environmental nut job whose proposals are straight out of Nazi Germany? He wouldn’t unless he didn’t think these ideas are absolutely bizarre.

Global Warming is the greatest hoax in all of history and its believers are evil little Hitlerites who would force their skewed vision on us through taxation, regulation and it seems, forced abortion and sterilization. I have to wonder, who are they “saving” the Planet for?
