When Ideology Trumps Decency

The absolutely dumbfounding post of the day comes from Gateway Pundit:

Leftwing Dutch Journalist: "Yes the Taliban Repeatedly Raped Me... But They Respected Me & Are Not Monsters"

Dutch journalist Joanie de Rijke traveled to Afghanistan in November of 2008 to interview members of the Taliban. Instead of granting an interview, the Taliban held her captive for six days during which she was repeatedly raped. Her reaction to this horrific treatment?

After her ordeal, she acknowledged that her captors “did horrible things to me,” but added in several media interviews “They also respected me,” and emphasized “They are not monsters.”

Let’s be clear; rape and respect are mutually exclusive. A man can rape a woman or he can respect a woman but he can not do both. It is sad that de Rijke is so invested in her left wing ideology that she accepts this treatment without recognizing the evilness of it. But it is absolutely tragic that she, and women on the left, ignore the fact that the treatment she received during those six days are what women living under Islam endure the whole of their lives.

De Rijke was released after a ransom was paid. For many Muslim women, there is no release while they live.
