There has been a slew of votes in the Senate as the Republicans, knowing they can't beat ObamaCare, are trying to pass amendments to limit the damage inherent in the bill. We know that the Dems, ala Binky and The Brain, are in favor of world domination at the expense of individual liberty but let's look at what they are against (h/t Michelle Malkin):
Protecting our elderly:
S.AMDT.3577
Amends: H.R.4872
Sponsor: Sen Roberts, Pat [KS] (submitted 3/23/2010) (proposed 3/24/2010)
AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
To protect Medicare beneficiary access to hospital care in rural areas from recommendations by the Independent Payment Advisory Board.
\Motion to waive the Budget Act (all applicable budgetary discipline) with respect to amendment SA 3577 rejected in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote. 42 - 54. Record Vote Number: 85.
The Dems voted this down because, well, you can’t have old people running to the hospital without the Death Panel Independent Payment Advisory Board’s official okey dokey.
Protecting children:
S.AMDT.3588
Amends: H.R.4872
Sponsor: Sen Inhofe, James M. [OK] (submitted 3/24/2010) (proposed 3/24/2010)
AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
To exclude pediatric devices for persons with disabilities from the medical device tax.
Motion to table amendment SA 3588 agreed to in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote. 57 - 41. Record Vote Number: 80.
According to the Dems, if Tiny Tim needs a new crutch he’s gonna pay taxes on it just like everybody else. After all, there are limits on that “for the children” thing.
Protecting the unemployed:
S.AMDT.3638
Amends: H.R.4872
Sponsor: Sen Collins, Susan M. [ME] (submitted 3/24/2010) (proposed 3/24/2010)
AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
To improve the bill by waiving the $40,000 penalty on hiring previously unemployed individuals.
Motion to table amendment SA 3638 agreed to in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote. 58 - 41. Record Vote Number: 75.
Somewhere deep in ObamaCare there is a $40,000 penalty for hiring the previously unemployed? ??? This is one of those legislative mysteries-I simply have no idea why it is in the bill, what it means or why Dems would penalize business for hiring people.
Protecting us from rapists and child molesters:
S.AMDT.3556
Amends: H.R.4872
Sponsor: Sen Coburn, Tom [OK] (submitted 3/23/2010) (proposed 3/24/2010)
AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
To reduce the cost of providing federally funded prescription drugs by eliminating fraudulent payments and prohibiting coverage of Viagra for child molesters and rapists and for drugs intended to induce abortion.
TEXT OF AMENDMENT AS SUBMITTED: CR S1879
STATUS:
3/24/2010:
Amendment SA 3556 proposed by Senator Coburn.
3/24/2010:
Motion to table amendment SA 3556 agreed to in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote. 57 - 42. Record Vote Number: 73.
Don’t you feel better knowing that the Dems protected the right of rapists and child molesters to take Viagra at taxpayer expense?
Ensuring that we all suffer together:
S.AMDT.3564
Amends: H.R.4872
Sponsor: Sen Grassley, Chuck [IA] (submitted 3/23/2010) (proposed 3/23/2010)
AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
To make sure the President, Cabinet Members, all White House Senior staff and Congressional Committee and Leadership Staff are purchasing health insurance through the health insurance exchanges established by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
TEXT OF AMENDMENT AS SUBMITTED: CR S1883
STATUS:
3/24/2010:
Amendment SA 3564 ruled out of order by the chair.
Apparently, ObamaCare is only for the “little people”.
And now a personal favorite:
S.AMDT.3668
Amends: H.R.4872
Sponsor: Sen Vitter, David [LA] (submitted 3/24/2010) (proposed 3/25/2010)
AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
To increase women's access to breast cancer screenings.
STATUS:
3/25/2010:
Amendment SA 3668 proposed by Senator Vitter.
3/25/2010:
Motion to table amendment SA 3668 agreed to in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote. 56 - 39. Record Vote Number: 92.
Now look at your wives, daughters, mothers and sisters and know, here in the United States of America we will soon have the same lousy breast cancer survival rates as Canada and Great Britain thanks to our fine Democratic Senators. Thanks guys, you are something else.
