Actions Do Speak Louder Than Words

The following is an interesting tidbit from an interview Sen. John Cornyn, Chairman of the NRSC gave to TheHill.Com on April 21st of this year:

Q: Have you spoken to Sen. Arlen Specter’s (R-Pa.) primary opponent, former Rep. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.)?

A: He’s come to see me, and told me he was going to run, and I appreciated him coming by. He understands that it’s the tradition that the NRSC supports the incumbent, but if Mr. Toomey ends up winning somehow, we’ll no doubt be supporting him.

One week after this interview, the aforementioned incumbent, Arlen Specter, announced what everyone but the NRSC had known for years-that he was a Democrat. GOP Chairman Michael Steele said Specter had “flipped the bird” at the Republican Party but plainly, Specter had been “flipping the bird” at conservatives for years. Consider this, in 2008 Specter received a 100 percent rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America.

The NRSC owes conservatives an explanation. They need to state plainly what they stand for and how they are backing up their stances with actions. Until their actions demonstrate that they favor conservatism those of us on the right should tell them Not One Red Cent.

The GOP needs to give us a leader that we can be excited about and rally around. The losers we've had to put up with over the last several elections haven't exactly been true conservatives.

I for one am tired of defending my Republican vote by saying, "Yeah, but think how bad it would have been with Gore/Kerry/etc...
