Is Being Lower Than Pond Scum Consider a Good Quality for Connecticut Democrats?

Some lies really are worse than others and claiming to be a Viet Nam vet when in fact, you never served in Viet Nam, is beyond dishonorable. That is exactly what Richard Blumenthal, Democratic candidate for retiring Senator Chris Dodd’s seat has been doing for years.

Matthew Yglesias’ take on the Richard Blumenthal: Yeah, Blumenthal is a great big liar but hey, he’s a Democrat so vote for him anyway. Any questions? Yglesias, apparently unfamiliar with the notion of “honor”, isn’t bothered at all that he is supporting a slug for the United States Senate.

For his part, Blumenthal’s campaign manager is claiming that the NYT has created an “outrageous distortion”. Blumenthal has referred to his repeated claims to have served in Viet Nam as “a few misplaced words.”

Who does Blumenthal think he’s fooling? When a decent man screws up he owns up to his failure. There is a world of difference between “a few misplaced words” and outright lying. By downplaying the seriousness of his actions and words, Blumenthal has shown he is unworthy to serve in the Senate. Sad comment when you consider the shoddy quality of those who have served in the past and those who serve there now.
