Pharmaceutical companies certainly could seed a bunch of opposition groups
with money, but why in the world would they? The truth is that its in the
best business interests of Big Pharma for Obamacare to pass. Government-set
prices, new regulations that crowd out smaller competitors, and big fat
subsidies all work to their advantage. They get more bang for their bucks
from members of Congress who can return the favor tenfold (or more) and they
don’t have to worry about the pesky pressures from often mercurial consumers
like you and me.
Big Farms sold out to the government in return for subsidies that pay them not produce food. It makes sense that Big Pharma would sell out for subsidies to pay them not to produce drugs. If ObamaCare passes, the government, not the market, will decide what drugs will be available. By throwing in with Obama, the pharmaceutical companies can play both sides of the field.
