I just received an email from my local Tea Party regarding a fund raiser that the USF College Republicans will be holding to raise money for the legal defense of Army Ranger 1st Lieutenant Michael Behenna. Being unfamiliar with Lieutenant Behenna's story I followed the link in the email to Defend Michael.
Behenna was arrested and convicted in the death of Ali Mansur, a known Al Qaeda operative while serving in Iraq. Mansur was known to be a member of an Al Qaeda cell operating in the lieutenant’s area of operation and was suspected to have organized an attack on Lt. Behenna’s platoon in April 2008 which killed two U.S. soldiers and injured two more. Behenna has been sentenced to serve fifteen years in prison despite evidence that shows that Mansur attacked Behenna and that Behenna's use of deadly force was in self defense.
I urge my readers to read this brave young soldier's story and donate whatever you can at Defend Michael.
