The President sat down with Bloomberg and during the interview the subject of bonuses came up (I have "edited" the President's remarks for clarity):
Question: It was recently announced that JPMorgan Chase & Co. Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. CEO Lloyd Blankfein have been awarded bonuses of seventeen million and nine million dollars respectively. How do you feel about that?
President Obama: I'm cool.
Question: But Mr. President, you've been criticizing "fat cat Bankers" and their bonuses for months.
President Obama: That's different.
Question: But how is that different, Mr. President?
President Obama: (deep sigh. eye roll) Look, Dimon and Blankfein gave thousands, no hundreds of thousands of dollars to my campaign and to the Democratic Party.
Question: Are you saying that fat cat bankers and million dollar bonuses are okay so long as they donate big bucks to you and the Democratic Party?
President Obama: Yep.
Question: But Mr. President, that doesn't seem fair.
President Obama: Not fair? Hey, everyone has an equal opportunity to grease my palm. What could be more fair than that?
