Take a peek at your future

If Nancy Pelosi has her way we will eventually end up with a Canadian style health care system.  For a peek at our future let's take a look at their system and see how it is working for them (I've added some emphasis here and there):

Danny Williams going to U.S. for heart surgery

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams is set to undergo heart surgery this week in the United States.

CBC News confirmed Monday that Williams, 60, left the province earlier in the day and will have surgery later in the week.

The premier's office provided few details, beyond confirming that he would have heart surgery and saying that it was not necessarily a routine procedure....
Now why on Earth would a Canadian Premier come to the United States for the care he needs?  Canada is a big country.  Surely somewhere in Canada there must be a surgeon who could perform the surgery that Williams needs.  Maybe we can get some insight from the post's comments:

Call it what you like; he either did not want to wait like the rest of Canadians for his turn or is using his Elitist connections and money to jump the cue, while admitting that our Health Care is limited or inadequate for his needs.

Which is it??

I wouldn't go to the backyard mechanic either if I could afford the Mercedes mechanic ! Chances are the Mercedes mechanic has better diagnostic equipment and resources at his/her disposal...

I cannot believe what I am reading; people criticizing a man who is facing a very serious and perhaps life threatening illness and has decided to use his own money to obtain immediate care elsewhere.

Perhaps the Premier, being able to easily afford the out-of-country procedure decided to do so to avoid adding to the wait list here at home. ...

I hope he makes out alright. Hopefully while he is in the US he can see how a Health Care System should work and brings those ideas back here.

I wonder how he is going to put a "spin" on this one though? I guess our Health Care System isn't good enough.

You get the idea.  They don't need "death panels" in Canada because people drop dead while waiting in line for treatment.  Further, it seems to be a bone of contention among Canadians that those who can afford better treatment get better treatment while those who can't well, sucks for them.  Isn't that the same complaint we hear here?  So, when you are screwed over by the evil insurance industry that is bad, but when you are screwed over by your loving and benevolent government that is good.  Got it.

One commenter wanted to know where Canadians would go for treatment once the United States adopted government controlled health care.  No offense to our Canadian neighbors but I am more concerned about where we are going to go.

Reading the Great Falls Tribune (a bit over a hundred miles from my home town) a few months back, there's a Canadian woman who was pregnant with quads. She was sent from Calgary to Great Falls because of a shortage of beds...ALL OVER Western Canada! I was in the Foothills Hospital mentioned in the story many years ago.
