Sen. Evan Bayh has announced that he will retire rather than seek re-election in 2010. What his future will bring is anybody’s guess but the speculation is running the gambit from White House appointee to challenger to Obama for the White House in 2012.
Bayh is a centrist. He served two terms as governor of Indiana, a heavily working class state. He knows from previous experience what fiscal responsibility is and let’s face it-he ain’t seeing fiscal responsibility from this Administration.
If Bayh has any further political aspirations he knows that he has to unhook from the Obama wagon. In any case, his retirement can only be seen as good news for Republicans.
