The Sound of Really, Really Bad

Straight from Just Ask Me, Don Surber gives us the “laugh out loud” moment of the day:

Question: How is that Honda Insight 1.3 IMA SE Hybrid doing?

Answer: It sucks. Jeremy Clarkson: “It’s terrible. Biblically terrible. Possibly the worst new car money can buy. It’s the first car I’ve ever considered crashing into a tree, on purpose, so I didn’t have to drive it any more.”

Question: Really?

Answer: “And the sound is worse. The Honda’s petrol engine is a much-shaved, built-for-economy, low-friction 1.3 that, at full chat, makes a noise worse than someone else’s crying baby on an airliner. It’s worse than the sound of your parachute failing to open. Really, to get an idea of how awful it is, you’d have to sit a dog on a ham slicer.”

I rarely, well never, read car reviews. I view vehicles in a strictly utilitarian manner. I want a car that will get be from A to Z cheap. This comes in particularly handy owing to my uncanny ability to total out cars. I have a co-worker who claims he is even more adept than I at totalling vehicles because he totalled the same vehicle twice. Obviously he didn't get it right the first time.

Which sort of demands the question: "So what are you driving these days?"

I'm driving a 2003 Toyoto Echo that I've put 100,000 miles on in the four years I've owned her. She'll be paid off in two months which means she's due to become a tangled heap any day now. Intersting note-I've never been at fault in an accident. I'm just extremely poor at avoiding them.

I've only owned one Toyota: a Celica, which managed to stay alive for 20 years despite a collision with a petroleum tanker at the halfway point.
